Illinois Child Support
Typcially, the parent who is not awarded the residential or physical
custody of the minor children pays child support to the other parent.
In Illinois, the law provides the following guidelines to determine
the amount of child support:
| Number of children | % of net income |
| 1 | 20% |
| 2 | 28% |
| 3 | 32% |
| 4 | 40% |
| 5 | 45% |
| 6+ | 50% |
The amount of child support is calculated using net income from
all sources. Net income is determined by taking gross income and
subtracting all mandatory deductions such as taxes, union dues, etc.
Voluntary deductions, such as IRA or 401k payments, are not deducted.
